In 2003, the US Congress showed its support for financial literacy in America by passing a resolution that made the month of April Financial Literacy Month. Although several states already had their own month to highlight the importance of financial literacy, it was made official when it passed the Senate unanimously.
Today, companies and organizations around the country take time this month to educate the nation about the importance of understanding their finances and understanding how money works.
So, this week, to celebrate all things money and finance related, we’re going to look at some of the options here at Cufflinks Depot that will help you focus on your financial world this month.

On March 4th, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences will hold their annual Academy Awards award show, also knows as the Oscars. It’s later than usual this year, so that it doesn’t conflict with the 2018 Winter Olympics. That means you have more time to upgrade your fashion before the Oscars Party!
A Little Oscars History
The Academy Awards (Oscars) are a set of 24 awards for artistic and technical distinction in the United States film industry, given annually to recognize excellence in cinematic achievements. First created in 1929, each category winner is awarded a copy of a golden statuette which has become commonly known by its nickname “Oscar”. Hence, “The Oscars.”
The Academy Awards’ first broadcast in 1930 was actually a radio broadcast, and only became televised in the 1950s. It is the oldest worldwide entertainment awards ceremony, and it is televised in over 200 countries (and streamed online to many more).
This year, during the ceremony, the AMPAS will award Oscars in 24 categories, most notably Best Motion Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress.
So How Do You Party?
One of the best traditions to accompany this fabulous awards ceremony is that of the Oscars Party. Friends and family gather to admire the elegance of the celebrities as they walk down the red carpet, while marveling at the women’s beautiful gowns. And they place bets on who the big winners will be.
When you make your grand entrance, even if it’s not on the red carpet (but especially if it is), you want to make a statement. Whether you’re wearing a formal jacket or not, whether you’re wearing a tuxedo or not, you can celebrate the film industry with the perfect pair of cufflinks.
Film Forward Cuff Links
Your love of film is matched only by your love of a great Oscars party! You should be wearing cuff links that show off your fanaticism. If you can recite the winners of past Oscars, you need these now!
Modern Cuff Links
Maybe sleek and modern is your thing. Or perhaps is the appeal of something shiny. Regardless, if your goal is to look sharp and chic, you’ll want to explore these elegant options:
Stay Classy, Baby
Nothing comes close to the classics, whether it’s a good black-and-white film or the cut of your clothes. Some things never go out of style, and you intend to always be in fashion. If keeping with the tried-and-true is more your thing, these cuff links may be just what you’re looking for:
Your Own Personal Stylist
You may know exactly what you’re looking for, but if you can’t find it, or if you need some suggestions, give us a call and our knowledgeable support team will be happy to help you with your search. They want to make sure your entrance at the party is a grand entrance, indeed!
Mardi Gras, French for Fat Tuesday, is part of the carnival celebrations that begin after Three Kings Day and continue until Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the Lent Season. Since Lent is a time of foregoing something of value, often food or another enjoyable activity, Fat Tuesday is the last big hurrah before the fast begins.
To mark the day before the beginning of Lent, Mardi Gras is a time of indulgence. Revelers eat rich food, attend opulent balls, and party until the early morning hours. And although most people think of Mardi Gras as a single day, it’s actually a celebration that takes place over several days or weeks (depending on where you’re celebrating the holiday).
Parading and Partying
The Mardi Gras parade is probably the best known aspect of the holiday. It features giant, colorful floats, beautiful costumes, and lots and lots of beads! The first Mardi Gras parade held in New Orleans took place in 1837. The tradition in New Orleans expanded to the point that it became synonymous with the city, and isembraced by residents of New Orleans regardless of their ethnic or religious background.
On Mardi Gras Day, the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, the last parades of the season wrap up and the celebrations come to a close with the Meeting of the Courts (known as the Rex Ball). Other local Krewes host their own balls and many locals spend the evening partying in the streets.
Dress It Up for a Mardi Gras Ball
Although New Orleans is the city most often associated with this fun season, Mardi Gras is celebrated in many other cities. However, if you’re attending one of the Mardi Gras balls, you need to look your best because most of the best ones are black-tie events. And even if you’re not, it’s fun to show you party spirit at work. We’ve got some ideas for you that include cufflinks with the traditional Mardi Gras colors of green, purple, and gold:
If you’re having trouble finding what you want, we’d love to help. Give us a call and one of our friendly support team members will be glad to work with you to find the perfect pair of cufflinks.
Pyeongchang will soon be the temporary home to hundreds of the world’s most elite winter athletes from sports ranging from figure skating to hockey to luge. And, lucky for you, we’ve got you covered so you can look your best at all your Olympic watching parties. But with the 2018 Winter Olympics starting in just a few days, you’d better hurry to grab the perfect pair of cufflinks to commemorate and celebrate this incredible event.
In case you haven’t heard much about them, here’s a quick overview for you:
This is one spectacle you won’t want to miss!
Share Your Love of Sport
The Winter Olympics is home to some of the most incredible, and sometimes under-appreciated sports. The 2018 Winter Olympics will feature 102 events in 15 sports, making it the first Winter Olympics to have more than 100 medal events. Four new areas in existing sports were introduced to the Winter Olympic program in Pyeongchang, including big air snowboarding, mixed doubles curling, mass start speed skating, and mixed team alpine skiing. With all these new additions, it’s going to be pretty amazing.
Stand Behind Your Country
With 92 countries in the running for Olympic gold, it’s very likely your nation is competing, which means they will also be walking in the Parade of Nations. Key athletes bearing the flags of their respective nations will lead their national delegations as they parade into the Olympic stadium in South Korea.
Following the order dictated by tradition, the Greek team will enter first, since they are the originator of the Olympics. Then the nations will enter in alphabetical order of their country’s names in Korean. And finally, the South Korean team will enter last, representing the host nation. And, for the first time in a long time, both North Korea and South Korea will march under the Korean Unification Flag. You can celebrate your favorite countries too, with one of our flag cufflinks.
We’ve Got You Covered
Even though the Winter Olympics is forecasted to have record low temperatures this year, we won’t leave you out in the cold! If you can’t find what you’re looking for, give us a call and we’ll do our best to find what you need. Our support team loves helping you and they always work their hardest to make you happy.
As January draws to a close, February is creeping closer, and in the midst of the bustle and business of starting a new year, the day of love is peeking over the horizon. One day a year we celebrate all things romance. So as you order roses and chocolate, as you hunt for the perfect gift to show your affection, or even as you pick out the most beautiful ring to seal the deal, it’s important to dress your best and to show your true love that they really do matter. We have a whole collection of Valentine’s Day themed items to make it even easier.
Plan Your Evening in Advance
In order for your perfect night to go off without a hitch, it’s imperative that you plan in advance. Restaurants, especially the most romantic and ritzy ones, tend to fill up with fast, making reservations challenging. If you’re having trouble with reservations, perhaps consider less obvious choices. If your significant other loves beer, you could try that hot new brewery in town. Or if your lover is a fan of vegan fare, maybe the best choice is the little restaurant downtown that has the most amazing vegan menu.
And don’t forget your after dinner plan! Will you take a slow, romantic walk through town? Or maybe a scenic carriage ride? Or perhaps it’s too cold for those options, so you plan on snuggling by the fireplace. Regardless, having an idea of where to go when the meal is over lets your significant other know that you’ve put thought and effort into the evening.
Dress to Impress Your Valentine’s Day Date
You wouldn’t show up at a wedding in sweatpants and a t-shirt, so of course you wouldn’t meet your date looking disheveled and dirty! Now that you know where you’re heading for the evening, you can choose clothes that would be appropriate. Or better yet, choose clothes that would step it up a notch.
If you’re heading to the most romantic, exclusive restaurant in town, you definitely need to wear your classiest outfit. And you can compliment this outfit by choosing the right jewelry so that you look completely put-together.
Besides an elegant watch, you should also consider items like your money clip – what statement is it making? And a tie bar – you don’t want your tie falling into your food, right? And, of course, cuff links for that extra special statement – you can look good and show off a little personality. These are the details that others notice, and they’re the things that say the most about who you are.
Give the Perfect Gift
This Valentine’s Day you may be planning a beautiful evening with your significant other, or you may even be planning to “pop the question” and invite your significant other to a lifetime with you. Bringing a beautiful, elegant gift is never out of place. For men or women, cuff links can be a thoughtful and often unexpected present.
If you need help choosing the perfect thing for the person you love, our wonderful support team is eager to help. Give us a call and we will work with your pick out something that will make a statement and make him or her feel cherished. And, until January 31st, 2018, you can get free engraving on any engravable item!
Super Bowl XIX is looming large on the horizon and four teams have high hopes for winning the ultimate football prize. Of the 32 teams that make up the NFL, only 4 remain: the Jacksonville Jaguars, the New England Patriots, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Philadelphia Eagles. If one of these final four is your team, then this is the time to show some pride and let the world know that you’re its number one fan.
The Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars are a franchise based in Jacksonville, Florida – one of two teams from the sunshine state. Originally starting as an expansion team, they won division championships in 1998,1999, and 2017. They have also qualified for the playoffs seven times (including this season).
The franchise boasts strong leadership under head coach Doug Marrone, and powerhouse players like QB Blake Bortles and running back Leonard Fournette. Their next face off is against the New England Patriots, and it’s sure to be a nail-biter of a game!
The New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are quite possibly the most successful NFL team in history, appearing in the Super Bowl nine times – more than any other team. Most of these wins have come since the arrival of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady in 2000. The Patriots have since become one of the most successful teams in NFL history, winning 15 AFC East titles in 17 seasons since 2001, without a losing season in that period.
The Patriots have also set numerous records, including most wins in a ten-year period, an undefeated 16-game regular season in 2007, the longest winning streak in NFL history, and the most consecutive division titles won by a team in NFL history. And, currently the Patriots hold the record for most Super Bowl appearances with nine, and are tied with the 49ers and Cowboys for the second most Super Bowl wins with five, after the Steelers, who have six.
This team will be tough to beat!
The Minnesota Vikings
Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Vikings also started at an expansion team. They’ve played in four Super Bowls, but to date they’ve not won one. That may change this year if they can overcome their opponents: the Philadelphia Eagles.
Since the team’s first season in 1961, the Vikings have had one of the highest winning percentages in the NFL, and they currently have 13 players in the NFL Hall of Fame. Under the coaching of Mike Zimmer, the Vikings were responsible for a historic milestone in the late rounds of the 2016 NFL draft by choosing as their sixth-round selection, German wide receiver Moritz Böhringer, making him the first European player ever to be drafted by an NFL team without having previously played at any level in North America.
The Eagles are sure to hear the sound of the Vikings’ Gjallarhorn which is loudly played after the team has made a big play, gets a first down, or scores a touchdown. This will be a game to watch!
The Philadelphia Eagles
Opponents of the Eagles beware! This team, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is fierce! And their fans are fiercer! In a Sports Illustrated poll of 321 NFL players, Eagles fans were selected the most intimidating fans in the NFL, and they’re consistently ranked in the top three in attendance, selling out every game since the 1999 season! So they’re sure to be loud and proud when their team takes on the Vikings in the playoffs!
Doug Pederson leads this team, having completely revamped their offense and strengthened their defense after several disappointing seasons. His new players have certainly risen to the challenge, placing the Eagles in Super Bowl contention for the first time in years.
Who’s Your Pick?
So, which two teams are your picks for Super Bowl XIX? Are you wearing purple and gold; green and silver; red, white, and blue; or teal, black, and white? Are you partying with your own raving fans at home, or are you heading to the big game to show your support? No matter what you’re doing as this season comes to its pinnacle and concludes, be sure you’re showing off your pride and looking great at the same time.
Most people think that cufflinks are things that exist only in the world of men’s clothing. However, this isn’t true. While men do tend to be the primary users, more and more fashion-savvy women are purchasing and wearing cufflinks in the workplace or even for causal days out around town.
Women’s Cufflinks at Work
The most common place for women to wear cufflinks is at work. This is because women are more likely to wear the necessary button-down shirt in a more formal dress environment. As with men’s cufflinks, women’s cufflinks must be worn with a french cuff type of shirt. That means that the cuff should button flat. Here’s an example for you.
The type of cufflinks you choose will greatly depend on the environment at work, and your personality. Some workplace environments may call for more simple, elegant, and understated cufflinks. While other places may be less formal and allow you to express more of your personal style and attitude through your cufflinks.
Simple, but Elegant Cufflinks
If understated is more your style, or a necessity, there are many choices that will be perfectly acceptable. You can choose from beautiful metals and stones for your look. Or you can choose something with an enameled design. Choosing cufflinks that give you the option to engrave your monogram is another beautiful and personalized option.
Proud of Your Profession
If your workplace is a little less formal, you have additional options when it comes to choosing your jewelry. At Cufflinks Depot we carry many sets that focus on varying professions. So whether you are a doctor, a lawyer, a teacher, or a sailor, we have lots to choose from. You can show off the profession that you worked so hard to enter.
Get a Little Fun and Funky
All these formal and work-focused cufflinks may be great, but what about sets for women who want to let their playful side show? Not to worry! We’ve got lots of options there, too. Perhaps your passion is fashion, try a cufflink set with some elegant high heels. If you love animals, take a look at our extensive collection of animal cufflinks (go wild or domestic!). Or maybe your favorite part of the day is Happy Hour. We’ve got you covered there, too, with a broad selection of beer and wine cufflinks to inspire you to keep going until 5pm.
Something For Every Woman
Regardless of your tastes or style choices, Cufflinks Depot has something for you. However, if you’re stuck or if you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for, please call us and our support team will be happy to work with you to select or order the perfect pair. We love women and will work to make sure you find what you need.
The new year brings an opportunity for new beginnings and new inspiration. For many of us, it’s a time to review the passing year, evaluate our goals, and organize our calendars. This time of year is also a good time to take stock of your closet, looking for any gaps, and filling them in.
Review Your Wardrobe
Looking, at your closet, evaluate which items you wear the most. Consider both the pieces you wear to work, and the pieces that you wear to relax. Remove items that are out-of-style, that don’t fit, or that are too shabby to pass off as chic. These pieces can be donated if they’re still wearable and in good condition, recycled into other things (cleaning rags, etc.) to give them new life, or tossed.
Cleaning out the old is a great way to give your current favorites room to breathe, as well as making it easier to find things in the morning when you’re still half asleep and digging through the closet for something presentable.
Evaluate Your Cufflink Collection
Once you have a good idea of what’s in your closet, take stock of the different accessories that you currently have to see if there are any gaps. Consider belts, money clips, tie clips, and of course, cuff links. While many men are perfectly happy wearing the same pair of cufflinks day-after-day, you are not that man. You know that a well-dressed man has cufflinks that fit into the different occasions that he may find himself in.
So, examining your jewelry and accessories, do you have cufflinks that work well with and accentuate your style for each outfit you own and for the occasions that you frequently find yourself in? If not, now is the perfect time to spruce things up. (Note, this is also the perfect time to get any broken pieces repaired, or to replace them with something new.) Check out our collection of New Year’s inspired cuff links here.
Get Organized for the New Year
Now that you have evaluated the cufflinks, tie clips, etc. that you own, it’s time to consider the care and keeping of these items. You can certainly toss them into a draw, but then you run the risk of finding them damaged when you need them. Similarly you could toss them into a shoebox. Or you could keep in the box they came in. Of course, then you’ve have to open each box to decide it the pair is the one you want.
An easier solution is to invest in a quality cufflinks box that will showcase your cufflinks, and (depending on your choice of box) allow you to safely contain all your other accessories. The ideal box will let you see all your cufflinks at a glance, making it easy and fast to get ready. We have lots for you to choose from here.
Go Be Awesome!
That’s it! You’re ready to head out into whatever life throws at you, knowing that you’re stylishly dressed and ready to impress. If you discover holes in your wardrobe, and you need help deciding on a new pair of cufflinks, or a classy tie clip, or a beautifully crafted cufflink box, our wonderful holiday elves (a.k.a. support team) would love to talk to you! Give us a call and we will help you make the perfect choice.
